Lauretta Onochie, the former chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission Board, has stirred controversy by calling for the arrest of Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

Onochie accused Obi of inciting violence through his supporters, known as “Obidients,” following his election defeat.

The controversy began when a video of Obi surfaced in which he urged Nigerian youths to challenge the country’s leaders on issues of bad governance.

It’s high time you pulled in this clown

Obi’s remarks in the video prompted Onochie’s call for his arrest on social media.

Onochie argued that Obi’s actions were potentially destabilizing and demanded that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force take action.

She labeled Obi as a “clown” and questioned his desperation to become president.

Peter Obi, who came in third in the presidential election won by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had previously challenged Tinubu’s victory.

However, the Presidential Election Petition Court dismissed Obi’s petition, leading him to vow an appeal to the Supreme Court.

If Peter Obi had won at the Presidential Election Petition Court, there would have been a civil war in Nigeria: Reno Omokri

Meanwhile, former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has expressed his belief that Nigeria would have been at risk of a second civil war had the Presidential Election Petition Court ruled in favour of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Presidential Election Petition Court recently declared that President Bola Tinubu was not convicted in the United States and rejected the argument that he needed to win 25 percent of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to be declared president, as raised by the Labour Party and Peter Obi in their petitions.

Reacting to this judgment, Omokri commended the decision and emphasized the potential dangers that could have arisen if Peter Obi’s petitions had succeeded.
