Vice-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North West, Garba Muhammad Datti, has claimed that the former Zamfara Governor and current State Minister for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, will soon reclaim his mandate, saying Friday’s appeal court judgment, which ousted People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Dauda Lawal, gives confidence and fosters hope for a favourable outcome at the Apex Court.

The Informant247 had earlier reported that the Court of Appeal on Friday nullified the victory of Governor Lawal in the March election and called for a rerun in three local government areas.

Malam Musa Mailafiya Mada, APC Zonal Publicity Secretary (North West), in a statement, said the National Vice Chairman North West, Garba Muhammad Datti, also praised Matawalle over his resounding victory, describing it as a crucial step toward reclaiming his mandate.

The victory, according to him, vindicates the ruling party’s challenge to PDP’s triumph at the tribunal while explaining that the appeal court’s position that the tribunal failed to evaluate the evidence correctly and that the appellants presented credible evidence speaks volumes to their conviction that the court is the last hope of the ordinary person.

Appeal Court declares Zamfara guber poll inconclusive, orders rerun in three LGAs

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, voided the election of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.

The Informant247 gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Lawal winner of the March 18 governorship election.

Meanwhile, Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenged the victory of Lawal, who ran under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The tribunal had upheld Lawal’s election, but the Matawalle, now Minister of State for Defence, proceeded to the Appeal Court.

However, the three-man panel of justices, on Thursday, annulled the victory of Lawal and ordered a rerun of the election in three local government areas, which include Maradun, Birnin Magaji and Bukuyun.
