APC, LP candidates emerge for Edo governorship election – 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE



















Senator Monday Okpebholo and Olumide Akpata yesterday emerged winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) governorship primaries in Edo State.

Okpebholo, who currently represents  Edo Central, scored 12,433 votes to emerge winner in the rerun primary election held on Friday in Benin.

The LP primary also took place on Friday and  produced the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, as winner.

Okpebholo and Akpata have now joined  Mr. Atsu Ighodalo,  elected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its flag bearer on Wednesday, on the ballot paper as the three leading contestants in the election.

Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, emerged candidate of a faction of the PDP in the state as its candidate for the polls declared yesterday,

He said  the PDP should forget winning the September poll should it fail to recognise him as its rightful candidate.

Chairman of the Edo State APC governorship primary, Governor Bassey Otu announced Okpebholo’s victory at the end of collation of results from the 18 local government areas of the state.

Mr. Dennis Idahosa, who won the last weekend’s hotly disputed primary, came a distant second in the fresh exercise with only 6,541 votes.

He currently represents Ovia constituency in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
