The faction of the Labour Party (LP) led by Lamidi Apapa extended their congratulations to President Bola Tinubu on his recent victory at the Supreme Court.

They declared that the affirmation of Tinubu’s win in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, where he ran as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was well-deserved.

The Apapa-led group did not hold back in mocking the LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his legal team, referring to their election petition as “the worst in Nigeria’s history.”

They issued a statement on Saturday, delivered by their spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, highlighting that “Peter Obi’s frivolous and insipid petition was dismissed in less than 120 seconds by the justices of the apex court last Thursday.”

Both Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had persistently challenged Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election, taking the case all the way to the Supreme Court. Among the grounds for their challenge were claims of double nomination, alleged certificate forgery, failure to transmit results electronically, and the assertion of not achieving 25% of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), among other issues.

However, on Thursday, a panel led by Justice John Okoro at the apex court rejected all the appeals made by Atiku and Obi, deeming them lacking in merit. The court subsequently upheld Tinubu’s electoral victory.

In their statement, the Apapa-led group stated, “The victory of President Bola Tinubu is well-deserved. It is a testimony of hard work, resilience, dedication, and love for the nation.” They also extended their congratulations to Atiku, acknowledging his commitment to the election, saying, “The former Vice President remains a veteran and not a failure; he gave it his all, but destiny at times speaks.”

However, the group did not spare Peter Obi, criticizing him for filing a “meaningless petition” that was summarily “dismissed in under 120 seconds (2 minutes) by the justices of the Supreme Court.”
