…Insists His Name On NYSC Certificate Differs From UNN
ABUJA – A factional National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Dr Abayomi Arabambi, in what appears to be a defense of President Bola Tinubu, asked his party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to stop taunting Tinubu over the release of his academic records by Chicago State University (CSU).
Remember that the publishing of Tinubu’s academic record elicited a range of emotions, with some calling for the President to resign on the basis that he submitted a falsified certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2022 in order to run for president.
While reacting to the development, Peter Obi challenged Tinubu to reveal his true identity, as the problem appears to depict all Nigerians as criminals.
Obi’s position, however, has come under fire from several areas, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the presidency, with the most recent coming from within his own party.
Arabambi told journalists in Abuja that Obi’s news appearance on the CSU saga was “needless and unwarranted.”
He went on to say, “We have been watching with keen interest the various reactions and mudslinging on the unsubstantiated allegations of forgery in respect of Chicago State University Diploma Certificate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).
“While we believed that Peter Obi has the right to express himself, he should be guided by the Nigerian constitution since ‘he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.’
“As a major opposition party, the roles played by LP’s former 2023 Presidential Candidate are highly condemnable because it is clear that he is attempting to wage war against Nigeria’s president through intimidation in order to cause a violent overthrow, which is a treasonable felony punishable by death or life imprisonment.
“We believe rather than Mr. Peter Obi engaging in this Media Tragedy, rascality, and comedy, he should have allowed the Supreme Court to adjudicate on the veracity of the issues raised in the President Certificate saga”.
He revealed that as the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, he was among those who screened Obi as one of the party’s presidential candidates and that the name on Peter Obi’s academic certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) differed from the name on the former governor’s NYSC certificate and WAEC certificate.
In addition, he said “a second look and curious check on Peter Obi 1978 School Certificate results posted hurriedly” by Obi’s former aide Mr. Oseloka Paul “shows the name Obi Gregory Onwubuasi and not Peter Onwubuasi Obi”.
“I was one of the people who screened for him,” he explained.
“He wrote on the form EC9 that he attended the University of Nigeria Nsukka and that he completed his youth service, but he only presented his school certificate in the final submission of the form. So something is strange, and I’d want to point out that the name the school gave for mobilisation was not the same as what was stated on his NYSC certificate, and he is aware of this.
“I’m not sure what he wants to achieve at this destination. We have his own petition before the Supreme Court, and the pleadings are missing; you are now summoning someone to appear and expose his genuine name. We don’t know Peter Obi’s genuine identity, even within the Labour Party, because everything between him and Abure in Asaba was cloaked in secrecy at the time.
“We were rushing then because we had just a day to do our presidential primary and that was why he was able to get away with it, but we have it on record that Obi’s name on his NYSC certificate and the one on his University of Nigeria, Nsukka certificate are different,” he said.
