A 26-year-old Journalist, Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu, the candidate of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) for Owode/Onire State Constituency Election in Asa local government area of Kwara State, North Central Nigeria has been declared the winner of the State Assembly elections held on Saturday, March 18 by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

It was learned that the APC candidate polled 7,521 to defeat her rival in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 6,957 during Saturday’s election.
This made her one of the youngest candidates in Nigeria to contest and win a political seat.

Speaking after being declared the winner, Rukayat said she felt privileged to be pronounced winner of the election in Owode Onire constituency and appreciated her party, leaders of the party, and voters for giving her what she described as a rear opportunity.

Rukayat is a former Senate President of the Congress of NOUN Students (CONS) at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and a journalist.
