In breaking news out of Gaza Tuesday night, Israeli Defense Forces say they are carrying out a military operation against Hamas in a specified area at Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital. This is the same hospital in Gaza City that is facing collapse amid Israeli strikes. Joy Reid also speaks to Peter Beinart, editor-at-large of Jewish Currents, and Michael A. Cohen, MSNBC columnist and senior fellow at the Center for Strategic Studies at Tufts University, about Israel facing growing calls for a ceasefire.

  1. Can we talk about $450 BILLION USD of oil and gas reserves off coast of Gaza that Israel is already selling contracts for??? They'll never let the Palestinians survivors return

  2. MSNBC: 24 hospitals are in Gaza North, with a total of only 500 beds? They are (were) surrounded by large homes with tunnels running to & fro. Additionally, Hamas terrorists are wearing casual clothes, trying to look like innocent civilians as they shoot at Israeli soldiers. Sadly, the media have become willing vessels of Hamas propaganda.

  3. They are bombing the hospital from the inside and outside, the gates and exits. They do not allow anyone to enter or leave, and more than a thousand innocent people, children, premature infants, and women are left inside without food, water, or electricity for more than a week. What do you call this? Even in prison, the condition of criminals there is better. They eat, drink, and warm themselves in the cold weather, and they are criminals. While these poor patients who died of hunger, thirst or cold, what was their fault? Did you know that all the premature babies in the hospital died and all the patients in the intensive care rooms also died? Forget those who died in the violent and continuous bombing, those who died by Israeli snipers’ bullets, and those who died of suffocation in the dust resulting from the bombings. I don't know what this means to you, but the whole world calls this genocide, unlawful killing, and ethnic cleansing of innocent people and children who saw nothing but blood and bombs in their childhood.

  4. Not to throw shade at Peter's vast military experience, but how exactly do you respond in a targeted military way inside Gaza unless you do EXACTLY what Israel has done?

And all of his examples are moot because none of those situations are anything like the one we are dealing with right now. Gaza is not halfway around the world from Israel, there are settlements right on the border with Gaza, and it is a small strip of land. Settlements which were pillaged and burned down by Hamas. Settlements filled with exactly the kind of people who Peter would like – peace loving, peace seeking individuals, the type of people who would and have volunteered to drive sick Gazans to hospitals in Israel in the past. And Hamas killed them and kidnapped them.

None of what he said has any bearing to the current situation.

  5. Hamastinians will have to find an alternate care option…perhaps their Arab brethren in Egypt can help. Egypt refuses to open it’s borders, because like Israel and the world at large, they don’t want the Hamastinians either….and they are certainly justified in keeping their borders closed. Who wants these religious bigots and merchants of death? Quite the conundrum of their own making.
