The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the reinstatement of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule by the appeal court. The five-member panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, adjourned the matter for judgment after hearing arguments from the counsel. Parties involved in the case will be notified when the judgement is ready. The election petition tribunal had initially sacked Governor Sule and declared David Ombugadu, the PDP candidate, as the winner of the March 18, 2023, election, citing evidence of result manipulation.

Meanwhile, in a proactive move ahead of the anticipated judgement, the Nasarawa State Police Command has facilitated a peace agreement between the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The peace pact, signed in Lafia, involves commitments to maintaining peace before, during, and after the Supreme Court’s judgement. Commissioner of Police Umar Nadada emphasised decisive action against anyone involved in any form of trouble during this period. The signing of the peace agreement aims to forestall potential unrest and promote a peaceful atmosphere in the wake of the upcoming verdict.
