KEBBI GOVERNOR’s WIFE ORGANIZES TOWN HALL MEETING FOR WOMEN GROUPS.

The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris has organized a town hall meeting to interact with women groups in the state capital on ways forward.

In her speech, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir İdris said the aim of the programme was to discuss issues that will further bring unity and development among women, in addition to deliberating on gender based violence which is of serious concerns to global community, saying GBV causes trauma to victims, calling for synergy among women and religious groups to tackle the menace.

She promised to create empowerment programmes that will facilitate rapid improvement of lives of women through her foundation as part of her commitment to promoting self reliance among women, adding that the present administration under the leadership of her husband, Dr. Nasir Idris has been supportive to women in Kebbi State and assured of continuity of the gesture.

She thanked the women groups for attending the meeting.

In her address, the Kebbi state commissioner of women affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba said the programme was aimed at rubbing minds with women groups on issues that are hindering the development of women with a view to finding lasting solutions to them.

She commended the wife of the Governor for organizing the programme to sensitize women on the menace of Gender Based Violence and lauded the effort of the present administration for coming out with various empowerment programmes for women through her ministry and assured of provision of more empowerment materials to them, describing the present administration of Dr. Nasir Idris as women friendly.

In their lecture presentations, wife of the Secretary to the state government and chairperson, High Level Women Advocates, (HILWA),Hajiya Asma’u Alkali and Ambassador Nafisa Zaki, spoke extensively on the negative effects of GBV and called for concerted efforts to stop the ugly trend.

The event was attended by Deputy Governor’s wife and wives of Commissioners among other dignitaries.

The occasion featured goodwill messages by prominent leaders, contributions, questions and answers by women and entertainment.
