In the recently presented 2024 budget in Edo State, the Deputy Governor’s office received an allocation of N354 million, according to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku. The Speaker justified this allocation by suggesting that the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, is expected to be engaged in a gubernatorial campaign in the coming year, which could limit his official duties.

The allocation decision, as explained by the Speaker, is based on the assumption that the deputy governor’s involvement in a governorship ambition would likely reduce his official activities. This budgetary decision reflects the political dynamics and considerations within the Edo State government, where the anticipation of political engagements has influenced the financial allocations for the deputy governor’s office.

The N354 million allocation underscores the significance of aligning budgetary decisions with the perceived roles and responsibilities of public officials, especially in the context of political activities such as election campaigns. As Edo State prepares for the gubernatorial election, the budget allocation reflects the Assembly’s strategic approach in managing resources while considering the potential shifts in the deputy governor’s focus.

It remains to be seen how this budgetary decision will impact the operations and activities of the Deputy Governor’s office throughout the upcoming year, particularly as Philip Shaibu navigates his political aspirations alongside his official responsibilities.

  1. The people are poor because they don't want to do a low pay work imagine all the structures built and the on going no single edo person working there the hole workers there are from the North and yoruba from West the majority of Edo people don't want to do laborer work but expect manner to come from heaven.

  2. What is so unfortunate about us the people and especially our medias, we tend to focus too much and too long on trivialities.

After spending all the time in the dramatization of trivialities instead of the contestation of ideas, we then expect politicians to give good governance, we and especially our medias are still not ready.
