  1. ABOUT ABEOKUTA

As soon as I got into Abeokuta, back in 2018, I fell in love with the place. Love at first sight? You bet! What was there not to love?

The first thing that got to me was the feeling of peace I had as the vehicle made it’s way into Abeokuta. After that was the air! It was noticeably fresh and clean. That was a pleasant surprise because I thought one could only get that kind of fresh air from remote villages and seasides.

Looking back, I shouldn’t have been surprised about the cleanliness and freshness of the air. Why? Abeokuta is clean! At least the parts of Abeokuta that I saw on this first visit to the place.

The traffic flow at that time of the weekday was sedate. So much so I had to ask if the place ever experienced heavy vehicular traffic flow and the answer I got was no. The good state of the roads I saw could be the reason why.

The architecture of Abeokuta appears to be a mixture of modern and quaint ancient buildings. I had to ask about the property rates for rental. There was a distinction between property rates of rental in “Abeokuta” and in “Town”. The rates of the latter were higher than the former. Still, the higher rates were very reasonable.

So what was I doing in Abeokuta? I actually came to see Olumo Rock but the town pulled at my heartstrings. The phrase that captured the essence of the place to me is “citified countryside”.

I didn’t come prepared to fall in love with Abeokuta so all the pictures I have were taken at Olumo Rock. Nevertheless, enjoy! 🤩
