Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has had his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate surface on the internet.
Both Oseloka Obaze and Jack Obinyan, prominent LP leaders, have acknowledged the revelation.
In addition to his WAEC certificate, Obi’s university degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate have also been disclosed online.
In a tweet on October 11th, Obaze, who was the Anambra state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2017 election, referenced his official Twitter handle, stating:
“As Americans say; ‘Trust But Verify.’ Here are @peterobi’s WASC, BA and NYSC certificates all verified: Nothing Bogus; Nothing Forged; and Nothing Ambigous.
“The fundamentals of leadership is intergrity and transparency. “Comparably, verified documents from CSU raised more questions!”
Similarly, Obinyan, a former Senior Special Adviser on New Media to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, commented on Facebook:
“GO AND VERIFY! “Peter Obi’s WAEC (1978), Degree (1984) and NYSC (1985).”
Various reactions have emerged following the public disclosure of Obi’s WAEC certificate:
Martin Okorowu shared on X: “Obi did not achieve credit in English and Mathematics in SSCE, which are prerequisites for admission to study Philosophy at the University Of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN. How did he gain admission? UNN needs to provide an explanation for Obi’s admission.”
Boye Onifade commented: “So he only had a PASS in Government? No wonder he couldn’t win.”
Ime Obot remarked: “You didn’t mention any third-party vendor, also known as oluwole, issuing a certificate not approved or authorized by the issuing authority.”
@PKaymani tweeted: “If Chief (referring to President Tinubu) had produced his own like this, we wouldn’t be here debating this issue. There are still many important things that need attention. What a time to be on planet earth.”
