The Minister of Youth Development, Boni Haruna has charged the newly constituted Governing Board of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre to make the institution a centre of excellence, capable of providing the high quality training and learning experiences that will engender the production of entrepreneurial youths for the country.

In his speech delivered at the inauguration ceremony held for the Board in his office in Abuja on Thursday August 21, 2014, the Minister underscored the imperative for the Board to excel; stating that the Centre is not only an important part of history, but a pivot of the past, present and future. He ascribed this as reason for leaving no stone unturned towards practically enhancing the Centre and facilitating better relations with the Board.

Boni Haruna further disclosed that the optimal utilization of the Centre is part of the vision of the Transformation Agenda which he revealed is about taking and implementing measures for offering people a brighter future, creating jobs, wealth and ensuring a better deal for Nigerians. He also congratulated the Chairman and members of the Board, advising them to conduct the affairs of the Centre in accordance with the extant public service rules. He reminded them to set operational and administrative policies in accordance with government policies and to supervise the implementation of such policies.

The Minister commended the Chairman and members of the Board for accepting to serve on the Board in spite of the fact that the Centre does not offer any special attraction like what obtains in NNPC and National Communication Commission (NCC). He lauded them for making national interest the first in their priorities.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Chairman of the Board and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Adebisi Omoyeni affirmed the readiness of the Board to deliver on the mandate of the institution. He noted that the institution shall forever be relevant in the scheme of things in the Nigerian project, especially now that is in dire need of more good and disciplined leaders in every facet of national life. This,  to complement the thoughtful and well-conceived Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He appealed to well meaning Nigerians as well as local and international organizations to partner with the Ministry and the Federal Government to reposition the institution for greater efficiency.
