DAMATURU – The business community in Yobe State has unanimously commended the Yobe State government on the implementation of various reforms, policies and programmes aimed at improving the health, education and agricultural sectors to sustain human and capital development in the state.
Alhaji Umar Abdulmalik, one of their leaders, made the commendation in an exclusive interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT in Potiskum Town on Monday.
Alhaji Abdulmalik said, “Health is wealth; Governor Gaidam’s policy of free treatment for accident victims, pregnant women and children of zero to five years old is highly commendable. This has greatly saved many lives; the maternal mortality rate has drastically been reduced to the barest minimum.
On agriculture, he said, “Food security is one of the global topic for discussion which human being should be put into consideration as it affects life and basis for every nation’s growth and development.
“Yobe is among the cities in the world that is naturally blessed with many resources including livestock, grains and fertile agricultural land that can grow any species of crop.
He expressed satisfaction that the Yobe which had in the past experienced decline in production of various crops has now improved effectively and efficiently contributing to the nation’s economic growth and development as well as others such as unemployment.
Abdulmalik reiterated that to curb the menace of unemployment among youths and poverty alleviation of its citizens, agriculture has to be embraced with utmost good faith through formulation of general policies with regards to labour, training or skill acquisition, industrial and technical matters, as Governor Gaidam’s administration is doing in the state.
“Irrigation programme of Yobe State is encouraging and good initiative which has engaged so many youths into agriculture,” he said.
He solicited government’s assistance to the business communities in the local government areas by providing them loans in order to boost their economy.
He, however, commended the state government for the provision of passable roads across the nooks and crannies of the state which according to him has made transportation of goods easy.
Abdulmalik further pledged to partner with the incoming APC gubernatorial candidate in Yobe State, Alhaji Maimala Buni “whom we expect for their remarkable programmes and policies of developing and enhancing agricultural and business potentials of the state.
“I call on our teeming youths to play the game according to rules and avoid violence and hate speech capable of disrupting the electoral process,” he said.
