If there is a single thread that keeps reoccurring when discussions of oppression and injustice against LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders) persons, sexual and gender minorities, it is the fact that a lack of knowledge or access to information significantly tips the scales in either direction. Specifically, information to the enshrined rights prescribed to every person in their country’s laws, constitution and parliament. Because of the very nature of Nigerian education as well as the people put in charge of running these schemes, we haven’t done a very good job of passing on this very important knowledge to the at-risk people who actually need them. Straight and gay women especially benefit greatly from having access to important information about these under-discussed topics. It is up to NGO’s like Women’s Health and Equal Rights (WHER) to step into the fray and bring order.

WHER has been more vocal, establishing in protecting the rights of LGBT women who are seeking to live normal lives without fear of discrimination. Inbidbad to expand her reach, the NGO has taken to print, releasing a 50-page pre-election pamphlet outlining all the important information around Nigeria’s gender and sexual minority laws, especially that heinous law that came to define and mar ex-president Jonathan’s campaign.

This 50 page tier will tell you in detail the circumstances around these laws, how they can be challenged and beaten in a court of law. The 50-page book also provides adequate descriptions on how it can be used to seek justice.
