A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mohammed Monguno, has called for separation of the budget for agriculture from the general national budget.
Monguno made the call while speaking on the 2019 budget during plenary on Wednesday.
He argued that the raining season is fast approaching and rains will not wait for the budget, noting that with focus on agriculture, the country is at 97% self-sufficiency in rice production.
“As we all know that raining season is coming; I will suggest that agriculture budget is brought in earlier. There is a need for the executive and parliament to separate it from the normal budget, as rains cannot wait for budget. There is a need to separate the agriculture budget from the budget.”
