Earlier, Legit.ng reported that in the spirit of the Ramadan season, Obi joined Muslims at the Central Mosque in Maraba-Nyanya, Nasarawa state, to perform the Iftar.

The Iftar marks the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during Ramadan, signalled by the call to prayer for Maghrib.

Former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, made a notable visit to the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque on the evening of Monday, March 18, 2024, joining the Muslim community for iftar.

A video shared online captured a heartwarming moment as Obi, a practicing Catholic, was seen eating from a disposable plate and spoon-feeding a young boy with the same spoon he used. The gathering of Muslim faithful around Obi during the meal underscored the significance of his gesture, symbolizing unity and empathy across religious lines.

Following the iftar, Obi addressed the press on the mosque premises, though background noise hampered clarity. While many praised Obi’s act as a demonstration of solidarity and inclusivity, reactions from Nigerians on social media reflected a mix of skepticism and political commentary. Some viewed the gesture as genuine, citing Obi’s past actions as governor, while others dismissed it as political strategy or questioned his motives.

Despite the diverse reactions, the event sparked discussions about the role of politicians in fostering interfaith harmony and engaging with diverse communities

Peter Obi breaks fast with Muslims in Abuja mosque

0

Peter Obi ate rice from a ‘takeaway’ plate and also spoon-fed a boy in the mosque.

Obi visited the mosque on the evening of Monday, March 18, 2024, when Muslims were breaking their fast.

In the video, the former Governor of Anambra was seen eating rice from a ‘takeaway’ plate and spoon-feeding a boy in the mosque while other congregants gathered around him watching.

Obi thereafter addressed the press on the mosque premises but he was inaudible due to the background noise around him.

However, Nigerians have taken to Twitter now known as X to express their opinions on Obi’s visit to the mosque, which is said to be located around Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory.

While some ascribed his sitting on the mosque’s floor with the masses and spoon-feeding a young boy to his humility, others found his action distasteful.

Obi was said to have joined the mosque’s congregants to break their fast following his visit to the palace of the Emir of Nasarawa State.

‘Eye service’ – Reactions as Peter Obi joins Muslims at Central Mosque to break the fast for Ramadan

Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party play videoPeter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party

The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday, March 18, 2024, joined several Muslims at the Central Mosque in Maraba-Nyanya to break their fast for Ramadan.

In the video making rounds, Peter Obi was captured feeding a little boy while seated on the mat in the Mosque.

The video has since generated massive mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Some displeased by his actions said he is engaging in eye service and are convinced he won’t win the 2027 election despite all his selfless moves.

Others applauded him, saying he is the best option for Nigerians as he continues to inspire people although he lost in the 2023 general elections.

Below are some reactions;

@etzsylva: 2027 campaign has started, he’s working for that already while the present administration is padding budgets he’s working to take them off that seat

@Homiebishop: He’s over doing it now he’s not even a Muslim

@dauntless_som: A real leader doesn’t segregate. Accepts other people’s religion and respects it. Obi is that leader

@bummiearo: This man is still in politics mood.

This is disgusting to see

@TimedFrank: This is really magnanimous of him. He has won so many hearts by this selfless act. You can’t help but love and/or admire him. He continually inspires people. That’s what being a good leader entails.

His values (and what he places importance on) align with mine. What a man.

@Chinonxo: Does he wants to do this for the next four years

Lol instead of him to be planning on how to rig the next elections

And get into power

Or is he waiting for inec again to humble him for the second time

@FateeMamtee: I tell you Nigerians this is the best option for you

Peter Obi is the man for you

@OyeniyiOlayemiS: He will still lose the 2027 election

@realbelieverCK: This man will one day be Nigeria’s president. He’s gradually though slowly being accepted by the north, since he’s already gotten the south locked, he only needs some good standing with the north to get there. We patiently and obidiently await that day.

@thewaleadeyemi: I don’t think that was necessary though because they will count it as eye service

@gidox4: He didn’t start today. Man has been doing this for years now.

@Talk2warith: What is this? You don’t need eye service, sir.

@PeterObi. This clearly shows that all politicians are the same. Oga rest, jare!

@sailorSahm: Is Behaviour is highly PRESIDENTIAL
